MLK's Letter From Birmingham City Jail Passage-Based Free Write:
The passage from which I free wrote was: "I hope this letter finds you strong in the faith. I also hope that circumstances will soon make it possible for me to meet each of you, not as an integrationist or a civil rights leader, but as a fellow clergyman and a Christian brother. Let us all hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away and the deep fog of misunderstanding will be lifted from our fear-drenched communities and in some not too distant tomorrow the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty."
What I decided to write about was how captivating the imagery was in this passage. I continued to find myself amazed by the image that appeared in my head by these statements. The way he used dark clouds, deep fog, radiant stars, and shine over all brought about this image of clearing skies after a storm and the wonderful feeling of a new beginning. I think this passage speaks to everyone in the fact that everyone can relate to seeing the skies clear and happiness erupting. The passage also illustrates each image with a relation to feelings and emotions coming from both the black and white communities.
